  7. DEVON SPROULE - SEND ME TO COVENTRY (VIDEO CONTEST)

Tin Angel Records, For Folk’s Sake, and Devon Sproule present the

SEND ME TO COVENTRY Music Video Contest

Rev up your Christmas spirit, show off your video-making skills, and help support a wonderful cause. Tin Angel Records and For Folk’s Sake are teaming up again to support London’s Integrated Cancer Centre, this time to the soundtrack of Devon Sproule’s new song, “Send Me to Coventry (for Christmas)”.  Devon recorded this gorgeous low-fi gem on her phone in Berlin, for a friend, and it landed as a standout track on the recent For Folk’s Sake compilation “For Folk’s Sake, It’s Christmas”.  Win the competition and along with various Devon Sproule and FFS-related musical prizes, your video will be linked to Devon’s own video for the song, posted to her website, and announced in her monthly email newsletter.  Help us celebrate the season and spread the word about this wonderful compilation!

    Here’s how the competition works:

    * E-mail the Tin Angel team - tinangelcompetition@gmail.com - with the subject title “Send Me To Coventry” and we’ll send you a private link to the track.

    * Make your video – all styles are welcome! Please note that any video using copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder, content that is judged to be discriminatory or offensive, or spam, will not be eligible for competition.

    * Upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, or any other video hosting server.

    * Post a link to your video on Devon’s Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/devonsproulemusic

    * The winning video will be featured on Devon’s website and all Tin Angel Records pages, and will receive a signed copy of Devon’s new record “I Love You, Go Easy,” and a “Monk” T-shirt, plus other goodies.

Closing date for entries is midnight of New Year’s Day. The winning entry will be announced before Twelfth Night (Friday 6th January). Good luck and Merry Christmas!

  8. Unlikely to feature on many best-of lists, the debut from Leeds-based folk/noise/jazz-ers Trumpets of Death is a startling and ferociously challenging work. Almost impenetrable on first listen, it opens up to reveal a sinister and enthralling world. Perhaps the most surprising album of the year, it finds its way to your very soul. It’s that rare beast - an album that gets better with every listen.

Trumpets of Death’s debut album “Teeth + Teeth = Teeths” is named as one of The Music Fix’s albums of the year, which makes Tin Angel Records very proud. You can buy “Teeth + Teeth = Teeths” via the Tin Angel Records shop. (NB. Orders outside of Western Europe may not reach their destination before Christmas.)

  9. beforethewinterfires:

The music of Minnesotan bluesman, Charlie Parr has been on our playlists ever since a trip to New Zealand and Australia, where his music became a perfect soundtrack to the roadtrip.  So it was a surreal pleasure to have him perform a few of his songs and share some stories of bears, moose and passport control in our home town of Bristol.

We’d been sizing up our friend George’s fireplace for a shoot for a while, so jumped at the chance to sneak in and film, while he was off, fighting a Sunday hangover in the pub.

This September, Parr released Cheap Wine, a compilation of past songs and a great introduction to his hard luck stories of  gamblers, drinkers, union boys and dustbowl wonderers.

“Cheap Wine” is available now on Tin Angel Records. Order it now via the Tin Angel Records shop to receive it before Christmas, or buy it from any good record shop or digital retailer.

  10. DEVON SPROULE ON SOUTHERN SOULS, “THE UNMARKED ANIMALS” VIDEO

Whilst on her recent North American tour, Devon Sproule played a session for Toronto-based video blogger Southern Souls. You can see stripped-down versions of “If I Can Do This” and “Monk/Monkey”, with accompaniment from label mate Doug Tielli, via the video embeds above.

This week has also seen the launch of another Devon video - this time for the studio version of “The Unmarked Animals”, which was filmed by our good friend Ben Cook at Anti/Type Films. You can watch the video below. “The Unmarked Animals” comes from Devon’s new record “I Love You, Go Easy”, which you can order from the Tin Angel Records shop in time for Christmas.
